:: A Tribute to John Francis Pastorius III ::
Nato il 1 dicembre 1951 a Norristown
(Pennsylvania) e' stato un innovatore senzazionale
del basso elettrico. Il suo stile asciutto e delicato,
il tocco diabolico, il basso fretless, l'originalita'
nelle composizioni e il suo incredibile virtuosismo
lo hanno portato, in breve tempo a creare uno stile
unico, riconoscibile tra mille. La sua stella ha brillato
nel periodo degli anni 70 con i Weather Report,
Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny, Airto Moreira,
Al Di Meola e tanti altri, influenzando legioni di
bassisti. Il suo primo album da solista esce nel
1975 intitolato semplicemente "Jaco Pastorius"
prodotto da Bobby Colomby e viene subito notato
dalla critica e dal pubblico. Seguiranno poi altri
capolavori come "Invitation" e "Word of Mouth"
da solista e con i Weather Report  "Black Market",
"Heavy Weather", "Mr.Gone", "8:30" e "Night passage".
Il 12 settembre 1987 a Fort Lauderdale, in Florida
viene gravemente ferito in una rissa, 9 giorni dopo
viene dichiarato ufficialmente morto. Jaco aveva
soltanto 35 anni quando si e' spento, come una
cometa ha attraversato la storia della musica dal
jazz al rock, dal reggae al funk modificando
totalmente il ruolo del basso elettrico e la figura
del bassista.		 Born on 1 December 1951 in Norristown
(Pennsylvania) was a sensational innovator of the
electric bass. Thanks to his dry and delicate style,
his diabolic touch, the fretless bass, the originality
in his compositions and his incredible virtuosism
he created, in a short period of time, his unique
style recognizable among thousands.
His star shined during the whole 70s with
Weather Report, Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny,
Airto Moreira, Al Di Meola and many others,
influencing lots of bass players.
His first solo album comes out in 1975 named
simply "Jaco Pastorius" produced by Bobby Colomby
and is right away subject to the press and the world.
Followed later on by other masterpieces like
"Invitation" and "Word of mouth" or with Weather
Report by "Black Market", "Heavy Weather",
"Mr.Gone", "8.30" and "Night Passage".
On 12 September 1987 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
he gets seriously injured in a fight and 9 days after
his death becomes official. Jaco was only 35 years
old when he passed away, like a flash he crossed
the history of music from Jazz to Rock, from
Reggae to Funk, changing totally the role of
electric bass and the figure of bass player.
